Faraglioni up close

We booked the capri boat tour from sorrento on a calm June morning and the water was glassy the whole way across. Passing between the Faraglioni stacks with the sun overhead was the part everyone had their cameras out for. Our skipper cut the engine at a quiet cove so we could swim off the back of the gozzo.

Blue Grotto worked out

The sea cooperated and we actually got into the Blue Grotto, which the crew warned can be hit or miss. Rowing under that low rock arch into the glowing blue chamber is stranger and quieter than I expected. Good mix of the Faraglioni, a swim stop, and free time on the island.

Smooth day on the water

A well-run capri boat tour from sorrento tour with a small group, maybe ten of us on a classic wooden boat. Late morning the light on the limestone cliffs turned a warm gold and the Sorrentine coast slowly shrank behind us. The captain knew every sea cave along the shoreline and slowed down for each one.

Lovely but choppy

Early March meant fewer crowds but a bit of swell on the crossing, so bring something if you get seasick. The Capri island tour itself was relaxed and the swimming stop near a sheltered inlet was the highlight for us. Would have liked slightly longer ashore in Marina Grande.

Grotto and swimming

Snorkeling in that clear emerald water off the cove was cold but worth it in April sun. The boat circled the whole island and we saw the sea arch and the lighthouse from the water. Booking capri boat tour from sorrento tickets in advance saved us a scramble at the marina.

Winter crossing surprise

Even in February the capri boat tour from sorrento ran and the low winter light on the cliffs was something else, hardly another boat around. We didn't swim but the skipper took us slowly past the Faraglioni and into two grottoes. Dress warm because the open water gets breezy.

Small group gem

Midday we anchored in a turquoise inlet and half the group jumped in while the rest sunbathed on deck. The Capri coastline from sea level makes the whole island feel bigger.

Good autumn option

We went in November expecting it to be shut down but the crossing was fine and the Mediterranean was calm. The Faraglioni and the various sea caves were the standouts, though the water was too cold for most of us to swim. The captain pointed out Tiberius connections as we passed the eastern cliffs.

Golden hour return

Our Sorrento boat excursion timed the return so the peninsula glowed at the end of the afternoon. Gliding back with the Faraglioni behind us and the salt air was exactly what we hoped for. Small wooden boat, ten passengers, plenty of shade under the canopy.

Fine but rushed

The scenery around Capri is genuinely lovely and the grotto stop was a nice touch. It felt a little rushed at the island itself and the crossing was busier than the photos suggest. Still a decent way to see the coast from the water.
